The Slice #28
from your friendly, neighborhood pizza joint

What's up pizza people?!? This is The Slice, the newsletter with more luck than a four leaf clover. This week, we're talking St. Patrick's Day! Whether you're Irish or not, there's always a good time to be had celebrating the Emerald Isle!
MAY THE ROAD RISE UP TO MEET YOU
St. Patrick's Day is awesome. If you're Irish, it's a time to celebrate your heritage - food, sayings, and traditions passed down from older generations. And whether you're Irish or not, it's a good excuse to throw on some green and down a few pints! Technically we're celebrating Saint Patrick, a 5th-century missionary who drove the "snakes" (aka pagans) out of Ireland, but realistically? It's a time for both Irish citizens and the diaspora to celebrate our heritage, and dye everything green. It's not all about drinking, though - let us know below what you love about St. Patty's!
WHERE'S THE BEEF?!?
One of our personal favorite parts of St. Patty's is the food. It may not be the most aesthetically pleasing, but there are really some bangers in the Irish repertoire. Boiled cabbage and potatoes, soda bread, and of course, corned beef! There's nothing like an obscenely large hunk of meat to celebrate the ol' ancestors. But every year, we find ourselves with a ton of leftovers. What do we do with all that beef? This year, the answer is simple: PIZZA. This weekend only, we're doing a Reuben Pizza (complete with kraut, fried pickles, and lil' drizzle of our Flourchild 1001 Island), and some Reuben Rolls for good measure. Come get some while you can!
THIS IS HOW WE DO LEFTOVERS
LUCK OF THE IRISH
We're going to be seeing a lot of shamrocks today - but why are they so synonymous with Ireland? It turns out, when Saint Patrick was "driving the snakes out" - ie converting pagans to christianity, he used the three leaves of the shamrock as a metaphor for the holy trinity. It's so ubiquitous today that it even has a milkshake named after it! If it's the luck of the Irish you're after, you can try for a four leaf clover - but good luck finding one. Around 1 in 10,000 clovers have four leaves - roughly one every 1.2-square meters.

Is there a four leaf clover hidden in this picture or are we just messing with you?
